Water Plant and History
The first day of operation for the water plant was October 10, 1977. That day, 522,000 gallons of water was treated. That was an average flow of 1,933 gallons per minute. In the beginning, the water plant was running an average of 3.4 hours per day. However, some days, the plant didn’t run at all. At the time the water plant first opened, it was rated for a maximum flow of 2,400 gallons per minute. With plant upgrades over the years, TASS is now rated for a maximum flow of 4,800 gallons per minute/ 6.9 million gallons per day.
On a daily average, we are currently treating 4,752,000 gallons of water, with several days throughout the month hitting very close to capacity. Tellico Area Services System Water Treatment Facility is a Grade 4 conventional Water Treatment Plant. Our facility is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and treats surface water from Tellico Lake. The facility’s conventional water treatment process is coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration, along with the addition of disinfection. Our water quality is monitored continuously throughout the day to ensure State and Federal regulations are met. Representative samples are collected from throughout our community and analyzed to ensure our water quality is always safe and clean.
